MONTREAL — Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay will lead a trade mission to Israel this fall organized by the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

The goal of the trip, slated for Sept. 10 to 14, is to acquaint participants with business opportunities in the country.

The board cites several factors that make Israel a favourable place in which Quebecers can do business, in addition to being a gateway to the Middle East and Asia.

It indicates that “Israel is considered one of the most advanced Middle Eastern countries in terms of economic and industrial development…

“The country’s economy is stable and mature, and is supported by a tremendous public sector, in addition to a high-technology sector that has kept growing for 10 years,” and Israel has the second-largest number of start-ups in the world after the United States.

It’s also noted that the rate of investment in research and development is among the highest in the world, and that Israel ranks third in the region according to the World Bank’s “Ease of doing business” index.

The mission is recommended for businesses and institutions with innovative products and services.

The itinerary includes Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Be’er Sheva.

Founded 190 years ago, the board of trade claims some 7,000 members representing businesses of all sizes. The current chair is Andrew Molson of the brewing company.
