Shaviv leaving CHAT in June

TORONTO — Paul Shaviv, director of education of the Anne and Max Tanenbaum Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto, will leave the school in June after 14 years of service. He will become head of school at Ramaz, a well-known modern Orthodox day school in Manhattan, which runs from kindergarten to Grade 12.

In a Dec. 8 e-mail to his staff, Shaviv said that leading TanenbaumCHAT since 1998 has been “a truly wonderful experience.”

School president Cecile Zaifman wrote in her letter to school staff, families and friends that Shaviv oversaw the establishment of TanenbaumCHAT’s temporary second campus in Richmond Hill and played a significant role in opening its permanent campus in Vaughan.

She noted that he is leaving to spend more time with his wife, Michelle, who lives in the United States. Shaviv’s first wife, Judy, died in 2008.
