BE’ER SHEVA SQUARE

A recent mission to Israel led by Federation CJA president David Cape climaxed with the dedication of a municipal square in Be’er Sheva, for years the local Jewish community’s Project Renewal “twin city.” The square, with prominent light and water features, is in the Ramot area, and at the dedication, Mayor Ruvik Danilovich spoke of the two cities’ special bond. Cape pledged to maintain Montreal’s commitment. A year ago, Be’er Sheva gave the Montreal Jewish community a lifetime achievement award.

 

JPL DIGITIZED

The first digitized versions of Jewish Public Library audio tapes, from its “talking books” project being led by the Yiddish Book Centre in Amherst, Mass, are now available. The JPL’s Facebook page is www.facebook.com/jpl.montreal.

 

ALUM SPEAKS

Award-winning TV producer Jonathan Finkelstein, who has created six series and produced more than 500 half-hours of TV programming that have won him many awards, including a Peabody and nine Geminis, spoke recently at St. George’s School as part of its alumni speakers series (Finkelstein graduated in 1981). His latest production is Way Off Broadway, premiering March 2 on Bravo!
