HOLOCAUST SERIES

The Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre’s annual Holocaust Education Series, on until Nov. 4, begins with a film about Raoul Wallenberg, The Angel of Budapest, 7 p.m. at the Espace Reunion, 6600 Hutchison St., followed by a talk by MP Irwin Cotler. LIVE AND BECOME

BOYS OF ESPLANADE

There are only 77 seats at the Segal Centre CinemaSpace for the Nov. 3, 8 p.m. screening of The Boys of Esplanade. The 53-minute documentary, produced in 1992 by Nick Pfefer and the late Martin Lubin for an academic conference, takes a nostalgic look back at a stretch of Esplanade Avenue between Mount Royal and Marie Anne, an area teeming with Jews that included onetime Superior Court Judge Herbert Marx and ex- B’nai Brith Canada president Gerry Weinstein, some of whom will take part in a discussion afterward. The film was first screened publicly at the same venue in 2008. Tickets, 514-739-7944.

 

WALK IN THE PARK

“Walk with Your Heart” at the Friendship Circle’s Oct. 28 “Walk for Friendship,” a 3-km stroll starting and finishing at Hampstead Park and benefiting special needs children. For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Chelsea Taiger, a Grade 6 student at Hebrew Foundation School, and friends recently held a bake sale of homemade treats for the Jodi Taiger Lazarus Fund for Hereditary Breast Cancer Research, named for Chelsea’s aunt.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE

Mount Sinai Hospital’s Healing Garden was the site of a recent non-denominational Celebration of Life ceremony in memory of patients who died over the past year. The event, part of the Mount Sinai’s bereavement program, was attended by families, friends and hospital staff.

Maimonides Geriatric Centre continues to recruit for its Fall Paraprofessional Volunteer Program, which lets recent retirees and “empty nesters” work with staff in hospital activities and services.
