SENSITIVITY & TRAINING

Veteran Holocaust “second generation” member Myra Giberovitch delivers a “sensitivity and training” lecture that’s mandatory for prospective volunteers who want to work with survivors, 7:30-9 p.m. at Federation CJA West Island, 99 Roger Pilon Blvd. in Dollard des Ormeaux. Giberovitch will “set the guidelines” and parameters for such interactions and will be joined by the federation’s Cheryl Bender, who will speak on a few of the community events regarding Holocaust commemoration. THE SECOND SON

The Dollar Cinema in Decarie Square is the venue for the 8 p.m. screening of The Second Son, part of the Jewish Public Library’s Israeli Film Festival. The 2012 French-Israeli film (Le Fils de l’autre), written and directed by Lorraine Levy, is about Israeli and Palestinian boys who are switched at birth, in French and Hebrew with English subtitles. CHARTER TALK

Well-known political and demographic observer Jack Jedwab discusses the controversial Charter of Quebec Values, also known as Bill 60, 10 a.m., Congregation Dorshei Emet. From 1994-1998, Jedwab was executive director of the Quebec branch of Canadian Jewish Congress and has written extensively for national media, as well as in books and scholarly journals, on issues of multiculturalism, human rights and minorities. YIDDISH DANCE PARTY

KlezKanada, in co-operation with the Mile End Chavurah, is staging a Yiddish Dance Party, 7 p.m. at the Ukrainian National Federation, 405 Fairmount St. W. The evening will feature renowned Philadelphia-based dance instructor Steve Lee Weintraub accompanied by the Rachel Lemisch Band. TREES OF HOPE SEDER

The Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre is currently recruiting volunteers for its winter 2014 Paraprofessional Volunteers Program, which allows retirees and “empty nesters”  to work side by side with Maimonides professionals in social, therapeutic recreation, and nutritional services. The program also includes education and training through lectures and workshops. Volunteer commitment is about one half-day per week and is flexible.
