Canada Post issues Wallenberg stamp

[Canada Post photo]

Canada Post issued a commemorative international stamp Jan. 17 in honour of Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat credited with saving some 100,000 Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust. Wallenberg’s picture, flanked by a yellow Star of David and a crowd of people he saved, are seen against the backdrop of the Schutz-Pass he created to excuse Hungarian Jews from deportation. Canada Post said it created the stamp to honour Wallenberg’s efforts and to extol the “values Canadians share – respect, integrity and justice… His bravery is not forgotten in Canada.” Wallenberg was made an honorary Canadian citizen in 1985.
