TORONTO — Israel’s current consul general to Toronto and Western Canada, Amir Gissin, still has more than seven months to serve, but his replacement has already been named.
Next summer, Australian-born DJ Schneeweiss will replace Gissin.
A Nov. 29 report in the Australian Jewish News confirmed Schneewiess as the heir apparent to Gissin.
Asked for his thoughts on his replacement, Gissin told The CJN he was happy with the pick.
“Schneeweiss is one of the Israeli foreign service’s rising stars, and his appointment to Toronto reflects the importance of this city for the government of Israel.”
The CJN interviewed Schneeweiss –Israel’s former deputy ambassador in China – in March while he was in Toronto as co-ordinator of Israel’s anti-boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) strategy department, his current role with the country’s foreign service.
The paper will interview Schneeweiss on his new post closer to his arrival next summer.
