Quebec Greens endorse BDS movement

Green Party of Quebec logo

The Green Party of Quebec has formally endorsed the boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign against Israel.

Its council adopted a resolution on Oct. 16 expressing the provincial party’s support for applying BDS against “organs” of the State of Israel and corporations, based in or outside the country, that are “engaged in and complicit in the violation of Palestinians’ human rights,” as well as academic, cultural and sports institutions.

The party says it will lobby the Quebec and Canadian governments to ban the importation of goods produced, in whole or in part, in Israeli settlements beyond the Green Line, and develop a public database of Canadian corporations and private bodies doing business in that territory.

The only exception made is for companies in the fields of medicine, clean technology and computer software, because the party “supports and promotes the global success of Israel’s green technology companies.”

The four-page resolution further states that Canadians should have “the right to endorse, support or engage in BDS-related activities without censure or sanction.”

The party says it will continue to support BDS until Israel permanently ends settlement of the Palestinian territories and “enters into good faith negotiations” with the Palestinians on establishing a “viable, contiguous and truly independent Palestinian state.”

The resolution warns against members engaging in any anti-Semitic or “Judaeophobic” activity in relation to this issue.

However, it accuses Israel of “routinely subject[ing] innocent Palestinians to violence” and discriminating against them on the basis of their ethnicity.

The resolution was authored by party executive member Abraham Weizfeld.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) dismissed any impact the resolution might have on Quebecers.

David Ouellette, CIJA’s associate director of Quebec public affairs, e-mailed: “With less than one per cent of the popular vote in the 2014 Quebec election, the Green Party of Quebec is clearly a fringe party. Its adoption of BDS only confirms both its own irrelevance and the marginality of BDS in the province, where the rejection of BDS continues to be a matter of robust consensus among all major political parties.”

In August, the federal Green party passed a resolution in support of “some principles” of BDS in a controversial majority vote at its national convention. Elizabeth May expressed opposition to the policy, but decided to stay on as leader.

That party will hold an extraordinary congress in December in Calgary to review its BDS position.

Quebec Green Leader Alex Tyrrell called May’s equivocation over whether to continue to head the party due to this issue “blackmail,” in a press release.

“The [Green Party of Quebec] recognizes the legitimacy of BDS and encourages members of the Green Party of Canada not to change their position on this policy,” stated Tyrell, who says he is the only leader of a provincial Green party so far to voice his support for BDS.

“The Green Party of Quebec is a progressive party that will never hesitate to denounce the war crimes, the murder of children or other violations of fundamental rights,” he further stated. “BDS is a non-violent tactic that aims at restricting the military actions of the State of Israel.”

Dmitri Lascaris, who introduced the federal party’s BDS resolution, applauded the Quebec Greens for “leading the way for the eight other provincial Green parties in Canada who have yet to adopt positions in favour of BDS.”

Let’s see. The Green Party of Canada has (wait for it) ONE seat in Parliament and no seats from
Quebec. About as significant a party as a party of pantywaist gardeners who oppose crab grass.
Laughable. Nothing to fear here, unless of course you live in fear of bad breath or snaggletooth party leaders.

    • TerrorIsEvil

If you are minimizing the impact of this gathering storm and implications for the future, then I strongly disagree with your assessment.

The BDS movement is making headway with alliances and marriages that will be unstoppable if Christians and Jews and other conscientious objectors once again continue to hide their heads in the sand as they have done during the growing Israeli Apartheid and BDS events on campus.

If you think that it is suffice to just show how good and decent Israel is by comparison to the savages who are killing women and minority groups in Syria-Iraq-Libya-Yemen-Nigeria-Sudan-Etc. to establish a Caliphate, then we will all be defeated and Israel will be under
constant threat by the UN-EU-Obama-Clinton-OIC-pro-terrorism alliance.

What must be done is for everyone to protest with letters and boots on the ground. We must be as determined to stop the terrorists as the new left-islamist groups are in
promoting them. Those who have not read the directions and commandments of
the Koran, Hadiths and Sunnah must get busy to educate themselves. Those who
are not aware that the new Left is not about Tikkun Olam but more about Jew
hate and erasing countries for a global dictatorship under some super-sized-UN-plus-European-International-Court-directorate are fooling themselves and endangering those who are years ahead of them in their understanding and thinking on this present danger and imminent crisis.

      • dr. abraham Weizfeld

If one were to believe all those horror stories then there is indeed no hope for life at all, but actually the BDS campaign focuses on Israel and not Israelis as a People, the HAMAS party does not call for the extermination of the Jewish People in its Charter but rather calls for co-existence and the Green Party of Québec is a growing political force here and everywhere because of necessity.

        • TerrorIsEvil

It is not a matter what I believe nor what you believe. It
is a matter of reading the HAMAS Charter and what the HAMAS Charter contains. We all have access to these documents and I suggest you read them even if you are a hatemonger with sympathies for terrorists. See:

Article 1 describes Hamas as an Islamic
Resistance Movement with an ideological programme of Islam.[21]

Article 2 of Hamas’ Charter defines Hamas as a
“universal movement” and “one of the branches of the Muslim
          Brotherhood in Palestine”.[17][21][22][23]

Article 3 the Movement consists of
“Muslims who have given their allegiance to Allah”.[21]

Article 4 the Movement “welcomes every
Muslim who embraces its faith, ideology, follows its programme, keeps its
secrets, and wants to belong to its ranks and carry out the duty.”[21]

Article 5 Demonstrates its Salafist roots and
connections to the Muslim brotherhood. [21]

Article 6 Hamas is uniquely Palestinian,[24]
and “strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of
Palestine, for under the wing of Islam followers of all religions can
coexist in security and safety where their lives, possessions and rights
          are concerned.”[17][21]

Article 7 describes Hamas as “one of the
links in the chain of the struggle against the Zionist invaders” and
links the movement to the followers of the religious and nationalist hero Izz ad-Din al-Qassam.[21][23]

Article 8 The Hamas document reiterates the
Muslim Brotherhood’s slogan of “Allah is its goal, the Prophet is the
model, the Qur’an its constitution, jihad its path, and death for
the sake of Allah its most sublime belief.”[17][21]

Article 9 adapts Muslim Brotherhood’s vision
to connect the Palestinian crisis with the Islamic solution and advocates
“fighting against the false, defeating it and vanquishing it so that
          justice could prevail”.[21]

Article 11 Palestine is sacred (waqf)
for all Muslims for all time, and it cannot be relinquished by anyone.[21]

          Article 12 affirms that “Nationalism,
from the point of view of the Islamic Resistance Movement, is part of the
          religious creed” .[21]

Article 13 There is no negotiated settlement
possible. Jihad is the only answer.[21]

Article 14 The liberation of Palestine is the
          personal duty of every Palestinian.[21]

Article 15 “The day that enemies usurp
part of Muslim land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every
Muslim”. It states the history of crusades into Muslim lands and says
the “Palestinian problem is a religious problem”.[21]

Article 16 Describes how to go about educating
          future generations.[21]

Article 20 Calls for action “by the
people as a single body” against “a vicious enemy which acts in
a way similar to Nazism, making no differentiation between man and woman,
          between children and old people”.[21]

Article 22 Makes sweeping claims about Jewish
          influence and power. [21][25]

Article 28 Conspiracy charges against Israel
and the whole of the Jewish people: “Israel, Judaism and Jews”.[21][25]

Article 31 Describes Hamas as “a
humanistic movement”, which “takes care of human rights and is
guided by Islamic tolerance when dealing with the followers of other
religions”. “Under the wing of Islam”, it is possible for
Islam, Christianity and Judaism “to coexist in peace and quiet with
each other” provided that members of other religions do not dispute
the sovereignty of Islam in the region.[21]

Article 32 Hamas condemns as co-plotters the
          “imperialistic powers”.[25]

            security. …

          • d gitalgravity

“Under the shadow of Islam”, the Jews have been subjugated and massacred for centuries, long before existence of Israel. Grand mufti of Jerusalem made a pact with Nazis to exterminate the Jews and was a major participant in the process. Palestinian soldiers under Yasser Arafat doing Nazi salute, and continuing in the footsteps of grand mufti.
But now you believe that in the Hamas version of “Under the shadow of Islam “, is going to be somehow different? You must be smoking crack.

          • dr. abraham Weizfeld

It is not the Palestinian soldiers who do the Nazi salute, it is Hezbollah, which considers it to be a Pan-Arabist salute. No doubt the Nazis had a propagandist intervention in the Arab countries claiming to be an ally against British colonialism. So did the Japanese fascists who claimed to be liberating China from Western imperialism during that occupation of north east China. Even the Baathist parties of Iraq and Syria were founded with Nazi inspiration. But then so did the Zionist movement make its deals with the Nazi to get its party members out of Germany and Hungary.

          • TerrorIsEvil

So now you are now blaming the skeleton remainder of the Jews of Europe for wanting to leave. You really are an antisemitic fool. You would probably have prevented them and then joined George Sonos in stealing the property of the dead Jews of Europe.

          • dr. abraham Weizfeld

You mean to say you do not know of the Haavra agreement with the Nazis made by the Zionist parties, who only sought to save their own party members and left the rest of our People and my family to be sent to the death camps. The Zionist parties chose to break the boycott against Nazi Germany, and refrained from warning the Jewish people of the need to escape. In addition the Zionist parties let the Western countries refuse Jewish refugees before, during and after the Holocaust/Churbun. All for the State and nothing for the Jewish People, that is Zionism, nein?

            You area a comedian, right?

          • dr. abraham Weizfeld

That is simply a quote from the HAMAS Charter. If you are quoting from the charter so am I. Now what should one think about Article 31. What about the HAMAS Op-Ed’s in the NYT and Washington Post which offered a 10-year truce with negotiations with Israel?

          • TerrorIsEvil

Do you wish to live under the HAMAS Charter or do you just wish death, jihad and sharia law upon Jews?

Dr. abraham Weizfeld UQAM Ph.D., Executive Council member of the PVQ and author of
    the resolution on the BDS

” I am pleased that the Green Party of Quebec has assumed such a position
of great importance concerning all those wishing to see peace emerge one day. The Jewish communities of Montréal and Québec are open to the proposition that their identity not be associated with the present government of Israel, which debases the reputation of the Jewish people. “

    • Groucho Marx

Israel does not cause anti-Semitism but reveals anti-Semitism just as it reveals self-loathing Jews like dr. abraham Weizfeld who perversely seek to bolster their Jewish credentials by defaming Israel.

      • dr. abraham Weizfeld

It is both true that Israel’s practices do not cause Antisemitism but reveals Antisemitism and at the same time serves to bolster existing Antisemitism by association. The empirical evidence is evident during the times that Israel carries out another massacre in Gaza. This is a result of Zionism’s disdain for the presence of Jewish people in the Diaspora which it seeks to negate and chooses to ignore Antisemitism advocating for the new modern ghetto. In the back pocket of Zionism are the Christian fundamentalist pro-Zionist current. I prefer the Jewish Bundist strategy of international confrontation against Antisemtism and Israel is certainly not helping.

        • Groucho Marx

The fact is that Hamas and its Gazan terrorists have provoked every
conflict with Israel by firing thousands of rockets and missiles into
Israel since 2005 when Israel evacuated Gaza. This is a result of
Pan-Arabism’s contempt for a Jewish presence in the region which seeks to eliminate Israel and eradicate Jews. In the back pocket of Pan-Arabism and its Jew-hating ideology are the Iranian Islamic fundamentalists. I prefer the current stategy of confronting Palestinian
Arab terrorists in their tracks. The Bundist strategy is socialist pie in the sky and wishful thinking that has been pursued for generations without any demonstrated success. A waste of time in the face of
chronic and inveterate international anti-Semitism that prefers Jews as a marginal presence, if that, and certainly as victim.

          • dr. abraham Weizfeld

Well actually HAMAS does call for coexistence with the Jewish population and differentiates the people from the State, which is an precise distinction in political theory. As for Iran, there are 25,000 Jewish people living there in harmony.
As for Gaza, there are no rockets and missiles, there are simply mortars with no explosive content, basically a flying pipe. The ceasefire negotiated by Egypt is respected by HAMAS and it is rather Islamic Jihad which fires off some mortars after being bombed by the IDF. So it is Israel that breaks the ceasefire not HAMAS, for both reasons.
With respect to the history of Jewish Islamic relations, there have been few murderous riots against Jewish people in Palestine 1936 and the Maghreb, with the Arab Islamic people putting a stop to those actions. However if Jewish communities can continue to live amongst the Christians in their Christian States of the Occident after the Holocaust and the complicity of those Christian States who allowed it to continue with no relief for the fleeing refugees, like the Frank family, then why can we not live with the Muslims?

          • Groucho Marx

Hamas “call” for coexistence with the Jewish population is little more than window dressing as they plan on driving Jews and the Jewish state out of the region. Your naivete is breathtaking as you behave as an apologist for Palestinian terrorism. As far as Jews in other Arab states,
does the reality of dhimmitude and a second-class existence mean anything to you? Harmony and subservience go hand in hand. The rest
of your submission is pure wishful thinking and without foundation, and
no more than a simple-minded attempt to undermine and eliminate
Israel, which after all is the goal of every Marxist ideologue who view the
Jewish religion as an impediment to their goal of international socialism
and the demise of Judaism. Jews can live with Muslims as Israel has
demonstrated. Its Muslims that can’t live with Jews as the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Muslim and Arab states throughout history has
            adequately demonstrated.

          • dr. abraham Weizfeld

Wait a minute.. where do you get this stuff you are pushing. I do agree however that the Marxism paradigm is useless and harmful for the Jewish People ever since Marx, raised a Lutheran, in his 1848 pamphlet ‘On the Jewish Question’ (What Jewish question!) called on Jewish people to assimilate. Well, that is what Jewish people have done in the West to get along with the Christians, even changing their names, giving Christian names to their children and marrying Christians. This is evident. We of the Jewish Bund are not Marxists. We call for National-Cultural Autonomy not dhimmitude. But your diatribe against dhimmitude fails to recognize that the Muslim treatment of the Jewish communities is far superior to that of the Christian Nation-States like Spain and England which expelled the Jewish population in various historical epochs, not to mention Germany. Next, where do you get your intimate knowledge of HAMAS and its plans for Jewish people, are you a member of HAMAS! So let us go by the declared statements from HAMAS in the Charter (Article 31) and the Op-Eds in the NYT and Washington Post, which call for co-existence.

          • Groucho Marx

            Article Seven Hamas Charter
“The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (evidently a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews.”

            Article Thirteen Hamas Charter
“The Jews will never be content with you, nor will the Christians, until you follow their religion. Say: ‘The guidance of Allah is the right guidance.’ But if you follow their desires after the knowledge which has come to you, then you shall have no protector or guardian from Allah.” (Koran, 2:120)

Your laughable attempt to demonstrate that expelling Jews is preferable to killing them as some sort of superior treatment of Jews and credit worthy of Hamas is hysterical. Your attempts to whitewash Hamas Jew-hatred are cringe worthy. Your fabrications on Hamas and Jews are not worthy of further response. You have indeed succeeded in meeting the definition of a self-loathing Jew.

          • John Dirlik

            Hamas is a red herring.

More than 30 years ago, I heard retired Israeli General Matti Peled asked how he could possibly advocate negotiations with a “terrorist” PLO sworn to Israel’s “destruction.”

I used to belong to an organization (Palmach) that the British also called terrorists” Peled replied, “Israel refuses to deal with the PLO not because they are terrorists but because it would then have to seriously negotiate the return of the occupied (’67) territories.”

Change “PLO” to “Hamas” and this applies today.

          • Groucho Marx

Who cares what Peled thought or what he claimed. It makes no difference. Hamas is clear and unequivocal about its Jew hatred and intent to eradicate Jews and Israel. That’s all that counts and matters. Peled’s views are the views of a quisling who was largely responsible for launching the Six-Day War and then complained that Israel’s capturing of the West Bank and Gaza in the result was wrong. Sucking and blowing at the same time was his legacy.

    • TerrorIsEvil

I have seen your name on lists that HAMAS publish of their targets in Canada. I think that they have made a mistake and confused the membership list with the target list. I suggest you contact your buds in the various terror groups to correct the error
