Earlier this summer, Canadian actor Seth Rogen announced that he would be throwing his best friend James Franco a bar mitzvah during his fourth annual Hilarity for Charity event, a variety show that raises money for Alzheimer’s research.

While Rogen’s parents are both members of the tribe (and apparently met on a kibbutz in Israel), only Franco’s mother is Jewish, and he never actually had the coming-of-age ceremony most of us 13-year-old boys take for granted.

Until this past weekend, that is.

Though Hilarity for Charity, which will be headlined by pop star Miley Cyrus, takes place on Oct. 17, Rogen revealed to Vulture that Franco’s bar mitzvah has already taken place.

“The rabbi wouldn’t do it on the actual event, so he did it last night at our friend’s house and we filmed it and we’ll show it at our fundraiser,” Rogen explained during the Steve Jobs premiere on Oct. 3. “He really got bar mitzvah’d!”

The 37-year-old Franco took to Instagram to share the news with his loyal followers, proclaiming his enthusiasm at finally becoming a man. In the photo, he can be seen donning traditional Jewish garb, including a tallis prayer shawl and yarmulke, as he reads from the Torah.

“I’m trying to organize a hora, specifically with some Jewish, uh, pop singers,” Rogen continued to Vulture. “If there’s any singer who’s Jewish, we’re getting them in there. Lisa Loeb. I think Haim is Jewish, I’m not sure. But yeah, we’ll find them.”

If Rogen is thinking of doing a celebrity hora, he may want to consult Drake, too. He’s a bit an expert.

Per Franco’s Instagram, one lucky fan will be able to attend the variety show as Seth Rogen’s guest, by visiting here.

Mazel tov on finally becoming a man, James!
