NBA all-star Amare Stoudemire will take on assistant coaching duties for the Canadian men’s basketball team at the 19th Maccabiah Games next summer.
The New York Knicks power forward was in Toronto recently to observe the national team’s tryouts and advise coach John Dore on which players he thought should make the team.
Dore had asked Stoudemire to help him coach the team.
Stoudemire last visited Israel in July 2010. At the time, he announced via Twitter that he was there exploring his Jewish roots after learning that his mother has Jewish lineage.
The Maccabiah Games are scheduled begin in Jerusalem on July 18, 2013.
