A personal message from the Premier of Ontario

On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am honoured to extend greetings to everyone marking Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah.

This day of remembrance pays tribute to the victims and the survivors of the Holocaust. We remember those who perished, those who were orphaned, and those who were displaced. Commemorating the Holocaust reminds us that a caring and compassionate society can only exist when we embrace inclusiveness and diversity, and reject — firmly and with vigilance — hatred and intolerance.

As Ontarians and as Canadians, we must constantly renew our commitment to those values which have always defined us — the cherished ideals of tolerance, mutual respect and understanding. It is our obligation, as individuals and as a society, to learn from the lessons of history and to protect the rights and dignity of all citizens.

Please accept my best wishes for a meaningful and inspirational Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah.

Dalton McGuinty

Premier of Ontario
