An application to redevelop Bathurst Manor Plaza has been stalled for years, but a public meeting will be held in October to update local residents about the project, says Ward 10 Toronto city Councillor James Pasternak.
The plaza, on the northeast corner of Wilmington Avenue at Overbrook Place, has been in decline since the 2004 demolition of its anchor Sunnybrook produce store.
An application was first submitted to the city for review in 2006, but it has gone through several revisions, because local residents objected to aspects of it.
A revised 2011 application included 44 townhouse units, two condominium buildings with 350 residential units and retail space. Parking would be available below and above ground.
“There has been only slight modifications to the proposal, and this is unacceptable. The density in the current proposal is very high and is not reasonable.”
Pasternak said redevelopment is a good idea, but it has to be done properly.
“They have to take into consideration traffic and density issues.”
