MONTREAL — Federation CJA is hoping to register up to 1,000 participants for a mission to Israel next year.

The eight-day Montreal Mega Mission is scheduled to leave May 14, 2014 by a direct El Al charter flight from Montreal to Tel Aviv.

“The goal is to unite all walks of Jewish Montreal and embark on a transformative experience designed to galvanize the community for years to come,” said federation president David Cape.

More than 100 people have signed up already.

“It’s not everyday that we’re given the chance to be part of something so transformational on such a large scale. I’d like nothing more than to share this experience with as many of you as possible,” Cape said.

“We believe that our investment into the Montreal Mega Mission will have the power to spur even greater community engagement, be instrumental in the cultivation of future leaders, act as an outreach tool to the diverse cross-section of the Montreal Jewish community, and effectively place Federation CJA at the centre of shaping the future of our community.”

Co-led by Jonathan Wener and Gail Adelson-Marcovitz, the mission will offer participants exclusive tours, unparalleled access to sites and high-ranking officials, and many special events.

Wener, who also led the last Montreal Mega Mission to Israel almost 20 years ago, added, “There is something uniquely powerful about sharing this kind of trip with hundreds of your fellow Montreal Jews. There’s a common bond, the thrill of discovery, and a palpable energy that simply can’t be recreated or experienced under any other circumstance.”

While large, the mission has been designed to ensure that each participant experiences Israel in his or her own individual way, said Adelson-Marcovitz.

Seats on the charter will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. All deposits are fully refundable until Sept. 18.
