Toronto police celebrate Chanukah

Sgt. Lawrence Sager, second from right, a Jewish 24-year veteran of Toronto Police Services watched 32 Division’s unit commander hang a Christmas wreath at the front desk last month and challenged the senior officer to also acquire a chanukiyah for the station. Supt. Selwyn Fernandes, left, an officer with deep connections in the community, took up the challenge and obtained a six-foot chanukiyah, which was donated by David Stein and Michael Kuhl (not pictured). The chanukiyah was displayed in front of the station, located near Yonge Street and Finch Avenue. Officers at 32 Division took part in lighting it and learned about the age-old traditions of Chanukah. The area surrounding 32 Division includes a large swath of the Jewish community. It’s also home to people of diverse faiths, and many made positive comments about the menorah.
