To raise awareness about glaucoma, “the silent thief of sight,” during the recent World Glaucoma Awareness Week, the Jewish General Hospital’s McGill Glaucoma Centre donated its I Have Glaucoma DVD to all Quebec public libraries as part of an agreement with the Quebec government and two public library bodies, Le Réseau BIBLIO du Québec and les Bibliothèques Publiques du Québec. As part of a pilot project before Passover, using Learn Quebec’s Zenlive webinar software, United Talmud Torahs staged a historic model seder that allowed working parents and family members, no matter where they were, to watch the event live on the Internet, setting the stage for future school events that all can see.
AFIK, SOLOMON SCHECHTER
Last month, a group of 11 students from the Afik School in Be’er Sheva reciprocated for a February visit by 29 Solomon Schechter Academy (SSA) students, by coming to Montreal and immersing themselves in SSA activities. The kids bonded wonderfully and were billeted with SSA families. The Afik School and Solomon Schechter have been partnered for 14 years in a program spearheaded by head of school Shimshon Hamerman and Partnership 2000.
