Israeli Upset: Denis Shapovalov, 18, of Richmond Hill, Ont. upset Rafael Nadal (ranked first in the Rogers Cup) in yesterday’s tennis duel in Montreal. Shapovalov was born in Tel Aviv and his father is Jewish.

Fauda Follow-Up: Netflix announced today that they will be partnering with Fauda‘s creators – Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff – on two more projects.

Palestinian Patrols: The Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas clamped down on social media and news content by blocking 30 sites this month. Most of the censorship targeted Abbas’ leading political rivals, Mohammed Dahlan and Hamas.

The Last Palestinian: Hussein Agha and Ahmad Samih Khalidi wrote about the future of Palestinian political society in a post-Abbas era in this week’s New Yorker. Considering what will happen in the wake of Abbas, the pair conclude that the death of the last Palestinian founding father will lead to the decline of the national movement framework that has persisted since Arafat.
