Jewish protesters were among the thousands of Americans who convened at major international airports over the weekend to protest the U.S. president’s executive order barring entry to citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries. JTA reported that many Jews saw something akin to what their forebears endured as they attempted to flee Nazi-occupied Europe.

An event hosted on Holocaust Remembrance Day at Toronto’s Ryerson University titled “What can be learned from the Holocaust?” held particular relevance given that two months ago, Ryerson students walked out of a student union meeting when a motion was put forward to mark Holocaust Education Week at the university.

The CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz, announced that the company plans to hire 10,000 refugees over five years in 75 countries, a response to the U.S. president’s order to ban refugees from certain countries. A backlash to Schultz’s announcement has arisen, with a Twitter hashtag #BoycottStarbucks trending.

Last night, the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) put out a statement expressing “chagrin and deep pain” that a statement released by U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration on International Holocaust Remembrance Day left out mention of Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

The U.S. president has made unlikely foes of Israel and Mexico: The Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today to apologize for voicing support for Trump’s plan to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, whose father fled religious persecution in Nazi-occupied France, called Trump’s immigration ban “un-American” at yesterday’s Screen Actors Guild awards. She also tweeted about the issue.
