Jewish families living at or below the poverty line in Montreal will be treated to a holiday food basket this Passover as B’nai Brith Canada prepares for its annual Holiday Food Drive.

After fifty years of running the venture solo, the organization is teaming up this year with the MADA Community Centre, a volunteer-based organization whose mission is “to help people in need with the basic necessities of life while preserving their dignity and helping them become self-sufficient members of the community.”

“Our new partnership with MADA will help ensure that some 2,000 food baskets containing nearly 6,000 meals are delivered so that no needy family goes hungry this Passover,” said B’nai Brith Quebec Regional Director Harvey Levine.

Hundreds of food bags have already been packed ahead of their scheduled delivery across nine locations in Montreal in time for the Passover seders on Monday, April 10 and Tuesday, April 11. Volunteers who are interested in participating are encouraged to contact either MADA or B’nai Brith for more information.

Opportunities to sponsor a Passover meal for the most vulnerable members of Montreal’s Jewish community are also available.

“Both B’nai Brith and MADA share a mutual goal of feeding the needy, and our collaboration will enhance our respective abilities to service even more families across the city,” said Levine. “We are acutely aware that the holidays can be a difficult time for families living below the poverty line, and it is our goal to ensure that not even one family is left behind this Passover.”
