The Israeli military deployed an Iron Dome anti-missile defence battery in the Tel Aviv area on Sunday. Over the weekend, more than 170 rockets and mortars were fired on Israel from Gaza and at least four Israelis were injured. Israel responded by striking 40 Hamas terror targets in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Sderot, where at least two rockets from Gaza caused serious damage and injured a family of four, including two teenage girls. Netanyahu met with the heads of the local municipal councils of communities located in the Gaza border area today.

Natalie Portman paid tribute to Isaac Bashevis Singer and his concern for animal welfare in a film released today by animal rights group PETA, in which she quoted a character from a Singer novel comparing eating meat to Holocaust atrocities. Portman quoted, “We do to God’s creatures what the Nazis did to us.”

Two visitors at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum were caught trying to steal bricks from a crematoria on Saturday. The two Hungarian tourists, a man, 36, and a woman, 30, were caught by two other tourists that saw them hiding the bricks in a bag and notified security.
