Maxwell Smart and Irwin Cotler were honoured this week at a Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University’s black-tie dinner in Montreal. The certificate presented to Smart cites his “successful life’s work as an artist, author and businessman,” as well as “his indomitable spirit” and philanthropy.

According to the Israel Security Service‘s monthly report, the number of terrorist attacks targeting Israelis increased by 15 per cent last month, over June’s tally of 220 incidents. Throughout July, Israeli security services documented 255 attacks, including 11 in Jerusalem.

Israeli police have announced a move to criminalize lap dancing at strip clubs, after the State Attorney’s office proclaimed that “the activity in certain circumstances constitutes prostitution.” The police announced that “the state prosecutor’s office will continue to act firmly against offences of exploiting women, including any offence or illicit phenomenon that meets the definition of prostitution.”

American Jewish actress Emmy Rossum has announced that the upcoming season of Shameless will be her last. The show’s ninth season is scheduled to premiere Sept. 9.
