Ahmadinejad picks AMIA wanted man for defence

TEHRAN — Mahmoud Ahmadinejad nominated as his defence minister a man wanted in the 1994 AMIA bombing.

Ahmad Vahidi is one of five Iranians wanted by Argentinian authorities for planning the 1994 bombing of the Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires, which killed 85 people.

Ahmadinejad, whose June 12 re-election as president is widely seen as rigged, submitted his proposed cabinet for parliamentary approval on Thursday.

Reports suggest that some on the list might not pass muster; legislators have already intimated that they see Ahmadinejad as having made loyalty more of a priority than experience.
