There’s a ‘new girl’ in Judaism, and her name’s Zooey Deschanel.

The actress, who appeared in fun indie comedies like Yes Man, 500 Days of Summer, and Almost Famous before starring in Fox’s hit television series, New Girl, reportedly converted for her producer husband, Jacob Pechenik, whom she married in June.

The two welcomed home their baby girl, Elsie Otter, three months ago.

In the past, Deschanel said she did not identify with any religion, claiming that her family was liberal, and that she was raised in the “you can be whatever you want” kind of way.

According to a source who spoke to Us Weekly, the 35-year-old Deschanel “converted to Judaism for Jacob.”

“They’re loving the baby and marriage!” the source added.

Deschanel isn’t the only celebrity to recently convert to Judaism for a loved one. Former adult film star Jenna Jameson has been making headlines since she announced her conversion for her Israeli boyfriend Lior Bitton. She’s also been a recent vocal supporter of Israel on Twitter, and also an advocate for kosher food – apparently, she bakes a mean challah.

Recent reports claim that Jenna is going to have her own kosher cooking show on YouTube, and star in a new reality show with Bitton about her conversion process.
