Local chefs compete in kosher challenge

TORONTO —  The Toronto Teachers’ Centre of Torah Umesorah, The National Society for Hebrew Day Schools, is introducing itself to the Toronto community with a kosher chef’s challenge.

To be held May 1 at The Warehouse, the challenge, for women only, features competing chefs Maurice Benlezrah; Shmuel Kanner, owner of Pantry Foods and Catering, and Mitchell Lipperman.

The winning chef will be selected by a panel of judges including cookbook authors Norene Gilletz and Estee Kafta and chef Joan Monfaredi, executive chef of the Park Hyatt Toronto.
The teachers’ centre, modelled after centres in Chicago, New York and St. Louis, promotes and helps to facilitate high-quality education. Its goal is to help every student succeed by providing their teachers with innovative supplies and resources; professional development through seminars, workshops and mentoring; and access to a computer lab and state-of-the-art technology.

The evening includes kosher tastings and a display of creative tablescapes.
