ALEH, Israel’s largest network of facilities for children with severe physical and cognitive disabilities, has announced that it is expanding its presence in Canada, with the Canadian Friends of ALEH to host its first-ever event on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the PI Fine Art Gallery in North York, Ontario.

The event, with all proceeds going toward ALEH, will feature a nine-course meal prepared by renowned Israeli chef David Biton of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.

Despite his young age, the 32-year-old Biton has won numerous international culinary competitions, and is excited to be involved with this important initiative.

“The whole organization of ALEH is so special, I’d do anything to help the children they support in any way I can,” Biton told The CJN via email. “ALEH provides such a special service for severely disabled children in Israel, this is one way I could give back with my skills and time.”

Over 650 children with cognitive and physical disabilities receive medical, educational and rehabilitative care in ALEH’s four facilities. The organization also provides thousands of outpatient treatments annually.

“I would go anywhere for ALEH, I’m just helping in the way that I can,” Biton said.

As for what to expect, Biton described a few of the courses that he will be preparing come Thursday. “Beef ravioli, a special new kind of gazpacho, a lamb dish, and the rest are surprises! They will have to come to find out!”

In addition to being the executive chef at King David’s La Régence restaurant, Biton also serves as a consultant at a number of high-end culinary establishments, including the Montefiore Restaurant in Jerusalem, and Restaurant Tropez and Restaurant Rio on the Dnepr in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.
