More Charges Laid
TORONTO — Ontario’s environment ministry laid seven new charges under the provincial Environmental Protection Act Aug. 28 in connection with the massive propane blast last summer in Toronto that killed one man and left 10,000 people temporarily homeless. Sunrise Propane faces five charges, while its directors, Shay Ben-Moshe and Valery Belahov, face one charge each of failing to comply with a ministry clean-up order at the site. If convicted, each man could face fines of more than $500,000, while the company could pay more than $2.5 million, the North York Mirror reported. A court date is slated for Sept. 17. Sunrise also faces $1 million in fines for two charges laid by the Ministry of Labour.
