Family Drops Lawsuit

WINNIPEG — The family of an elderly Jewish man who died while at the centre of an end-of-life medical treatment dispute has dropped its lawsuit against the agency responsible for the hospital that tried to take him off life support. Samuel Golubchuk, 85, died June 24 after spending seven months on life support at Grace General Hospital. Doctors there wanted to take the Orthodox man off life support, but his family sued the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority to stop them. He died before the case could come to trial. The end of the lawsuit means the case won’t set a precedent for how to deal with dying patients in similar situations, the Winnipeg Sun reported.
