Diplomats Relocated

OTTAWA — Canada’s representative office to the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah has been functioning with a skeletal staff after most personnel were transferred to Jerusalem for safety reasons due to the conflict in Gaza, the newspaper Embassy reported last week. The Foreign Affairs Department confirmed the move, which an Embassy source said was taken shortly after hostilities began out of fear of attacks.

Neo-Nazis Join Rally

CALGARY — Members of the Aryan Guard, a neo-Nazi group, took part in a Jan. 10 protest in Calgary against Israel’s actions in Gaza, the Calgary Herald reported. The white supremacists marched near the front of the crowd holding a modified Israeli flag that read “Terror State.” Protest organizer Shadi Abuid said the neo-Nazis were told they weren’t welcome, but “you can’t  deny people’s right to walk.” A spokesperson for Anti-Racist Action Calgary who was at the event said it was “unfortunate” the Aryan Guard members didn’t face much opposition at the protest. The rally, which drew 1,200 people, was one of many similar ones held across Canada on Jan. 10.
