Emunah dinner set for May 13

TORONTO — Emunah Women of Toronto is honouring Monty and Eileen Kobrin at its annual Family-in-Israel dinner, set for May 13 at Shaarei Shomayim Congregation.

The Kobrins are being recognized for their support of Emunah Women. Eileen Kobrin is co-president of the organization, and secretary of Emunah Canada.

Also at the dinner, longtime Emunah donors Alex and Rose Colchary will be presented with the community award for their fundraising efforts on behalf of Israel. Rose Colchary has spearheaded a number of events, raising money for the organizations projects in Israel.

Proceeds from the dinner will go to Emunah’s new centre for teenage girls at risk in Neve Michael, as well as to the Ashkelon Daycare Centre, to provide psychological treatment and trauma relief for children and families affected by rocket attacks in their area during the recent fighting in Gaza.

Guest speaker is Barbara Crook, associate director and North American representative of Palestinian Media Watch, a Jerusalem-based organization that studies Palestinian society by monitoring and translating media.

An Ottawa resident, Crook has been active in a number of Jewish organizations including Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, Jewish Education Through Torah (JET), the Jewish Federation of Ottawa , and the Jewish National Fund.
