Neo-Nazi Acquitted

VANCOUVER — A man labelled by a Federal Court judge as “a neo-Nazi” and “virulently anti-Jewish” was acquitted of contempt charges on a technicality last week. The court ruled that former University of Saskatchewan math lecturer Terry Tremaine could not be in contempt of a court order since he was not informed that the court had registered a decision of the Canadian Human Rights Commission that ordered him to stop posting hate messages on the Internet. In 2007, after receiving a complaint from Ottawa activist Richard Warman, a commission tribunal fined Tremaine $4,000 and ordered him to stop posting hate on the web.
