Silence Observed

QUEBEC CITY —The Quebec National Assembly observed a minute of silence May 3 in observance of Yom Hashoah. The gesture followed a motion tabled by Liberal MNA Lawrence Bergman, PQ MNA Louise Beaudoin, François Bonnardel of the Action Démocratique, and independent Eric Caire. In 1999, Quebec adopted a law officially proclaiming an annual Holocaust remembrance day. In an address to MNAs, Bergman said the attempted extermination of the Jews was unique, but that other genocides have occurred since 1945 and there are other crimes against humanity occurring today and signs of more to come.
