Yaldeinu leaders heading to Cuba

Yaldeinu, a charitable organization that provides Jewish education to Jewish children and young adults in Israel and developing countries, recently announced its first overseas volunteer mission.

Yaldeinu’s emerging leaders development mission to Cuba, from April 11 to 18, will be made up of young leaders, largely from Toronto’s Jewish community.

“This mission is being held to show our solidarity with the Cuban Jewish community’s young leaders,” said Michael Ettedgui, the organization’s founder and executive director.

“Canadian participants will volunteer their services, taking part in hands-on projects to help their Cuban brothers and sisters. Mission participants and their Cuban peers will also partake in joint educational and recreational programming.”

The mission, which costs $2,000, including flights, meals and accommodations, is being subsidized by Ve’ahavta: The Canadian Jewish Humanitarian and Relief Committee.

“We want to support young people who are willing to give of themselves and learn about Jewish life in countries like Cuba,” said Avrum Rosensweig, president of Ve’ahavta. “We are happy to provide a $500 sponsorship to the first 12 registrants of this mission.”
