Modern sandstorm of biblical proportions

An Israeli airplane two weeks ago was able to capture photos of a rare sandstorm blowing across the south of Israel in the Negev. Advancing from west to east at a speed of 60 km/h, the storm blew in from the Sinai Desert. The photo was taken from an altitude of 8,000 feet. The height of the wall of sand was approximately 4,000 feet. Bracing for the howl of sand is the community of Nevatim, southeast of Be’er Sheva.  [Photo by Eliezer Yaffe]
